Chelsea manager Frank Lampard will make a late decision on N’Golo Kante‘s involvement in the Super Cup final against Liverpool after the midfielder suffered an injury setback in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester United.
The France international picked up a minor knock during a 17-minute cameo at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Lampard will speak to Kante, who nursed hamstring and knee injuries towards the end of last season, before finalising his squad for Wednesday’s showdown at Vodafone Park in Istanbul.
“The selection of N’Golo on the bench at United was purely because he was coming back from injury and missed pre-season, so he wasn’t ready.
“I’m very aware of how important he is for us. He picked up a small injury in that game so we are assessing that for tomorrow.
“I will speak to him today and make a decision on that with him.”
Lampard confirmed Willian and Antonio Rudiger should be involved against Liverpool after recovering from knee and surgery to repair meniscus damage respectively.
“Willian and Rudiger are here and they are in different stages,” the manager said.
“Willian is not far from fit, to put him n a high intensity match is tough. He will be working through this week on fitness. Tomorrow he will be on the bench. Similarly with Rudiger.”
