Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is confident he can be fit for the start of the La Liga season, sources have told ESPN FC.

Summer 2018 signing Courtois had established himself firmly as first-choice keeper for Los Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane through preseason in recent weeks, only to pick up “a grade 2 sprained ankle” at training on Monday, according to a Madrid club statement.

However, sources tell ESPN FC that Courtois believes the ankle knock is not serious, and he will soon be again available for selection.

The Costa Rica international had considered leaving Madrid this summer, but a move to Paris Saint Germain fell through, sources said last week.
