Liverpool have handed a new long-term contract to promising teenage midfielder Curtis Jones.

The 18-year-old signed his first professional deal with the club last February after making his Under-23s debut a month earlier.

Jones has featured in four senior matchday squads, including being named as a substitute in the Merseyside derby draw with Everton at Goodison Park in 2017-18.

The Scouser, who has been with Liverpool since U9 level, made his first-team bow in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat away to Wolves last season.

“At the point I’m at now in my career I think it’s very important to take decisions slowly,” Jones told the club’s official website.

“But this one was easy and straightforward. I’m happy to put pen to paper and I’m ready to kick on from here.”

On his objectives, Jones added: “Definitely to become a bigger part of this great team.

“Hopefully I can get a [Premier League] debut and get a goal and give the fans what they deserve.

“Longer-term, my dreams are of being the captain of Liverpool Football Club, playing every week and winning a trophy is definitely what I’m looking to do.”

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard coached Jones when he was in charge of the club’s U18s, saying: “He’s a top talent and he’s a top player. He’s got that quality to create something out of nothing.”
